About the 2014 Recipient

The Reaching Our Sisters Everywhere (ROSE) Charlotte, NC affiliate seeks a partnership from the North Carolina Breastfeeding Coalition to support a Peer-to-Peer Prenatal Breastfeeding Education Program. This 12-week pilot project is a community-based, participatory peer counselor training program that will educate and support 600 underserved local mothers in breastfeeding.

ROSE, Inc. is a member network that was founded in 2011 to address breastfeeding disparities among people of color nationwide through culturally competent training, education, advocacy, and support. ROSE Charlotte was launched in 2012 to enhance, encourage, support, promote, and protect breastfeeding by working to reduce the breastfeeding disparities among African American women in Charlotte, North Carolina and surrounding areas.

With a mini-grant of $1500.00 from the North Carolina Breastfeeding Coalition, ROSE Charlotte will offer a Peer-to-Peer Prenatal Breastfeeding Education Program, in collaboration with local healthcare providers, the Charlotte Housing Authority, and Novant Health.
